S-S-S-Scavenger Hunt

The Scavenger Hunt this month is a little different. Our hostess and ringleader, Jill (Greenthumb) at Made With Love, is on hiatus for a few months. With advancefuturetiming technology, the link-up went ahead last month - basically, we showed up at her place and made our own drinks and snacks. She just asked us to clean up after ourselves, and then she gave us carte blanche to do what we wanted for January. I made up prompts for my photos. I wanted some kind of theme to tie them together, so they all start with the letter S.

First up, SEQUEL

I wasn't completely satisfied with my logo cover-up that I showed you in my last post, so I changed it. Here, I've used a scrap of rather lovely fabric and glued it down to the logo. Then I glued a plastic brooch (without the pin) on top of it. The brooch came from Citizen Rosebud's shop.

I like this better, but I still need to trim the edges or add something to finish them off.

SOFT

I was given a lot of lotion at Christmas, and some lip balm. So I'm pretty soft right now.

SORT

Yikes! I've been sorting through lots of old clothes and shoes to see what I could jettison - I got $79 at a resale shop, which was way better than I expected! The rest went to the thrift store.

SCISSORS

Trying to work out an idea I had for embellishing a blazer. It's all pinned - see below - but I just haven't started sewing yet.

SUGGESTION

This is my suggested placement of the lace pieces.

STACK

You may have guessed there's a sort of sewing theme going on here.

SAFETY

I seem to have several of these travel sewing kits with safety pins, thread, needles and buttons.

SEE

See! It's nearly invisible - and has been waiting for use since the '60s!

STICK

A "voodoo" doll I was given long ago. I use it as a pin cushion.

And, breaking away from the sewing theme -

SCULPTURE

At our local art museum - the head is sculpted out of Sotheby's catalogs!

In like puppy days, out like dog days

Can you believe July is over? It came in like a beautiful summer's day and it's leaving the same way, with added brown grass and sultriness. It's been hot here, sometimes too hot, but I know I'll miss it when it's gone.

It's time for another Scavenger Hunt at Made With Love, so there are a lot of photos in this post. I hope you like them.

The first prompt is 9 PM. I'm always amazed at how much the days start to shrink in July, so I took a picture out our front door on July 1 at 9 PM and another one on July 30 at 9 PM to see the difference.

 9 PM

July 1
July 30

The rest of my photos were taken on a trip to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus - I love it when I can scavenge all my photos in one location! Because I was going to the art museum I had plenty to choose from for ON THE WALL.

The last one also fulfills C IS FOR... crochet.

And the cookie from the museum cafe, well, it could be C IS FOR..., or DOUGH, but I'm using it for SWEET.

The museum has a beautiful little courtyard with both a tiny pool and a large pool, so I got POOL and LIQUID there.

And then I saw the STEM.

Just outside the museum was this sculpture, which was perfect for TOGETHER.

I couldn't believe my luck when I saw this, which gave me DOUGH.

IN MY BAG was the rest of the cookie that I hadn't eaten.

And to sum it all up was MY VIEW OF TODAY with the big O for Oregon

I missed getting LEVER. Or maybe I just missed getting a close-up. Check out the guy on the bike - I bet there's a lever there somewhere.

Come see the other scavenger hunts - there are always some wonderful photos from around the world!

May Scavenger Hunt

Time for another Scavenger Hunt hosted by Greenthumb at Made With Love. If you like to cook, she posts lots of recipes, or just go check out some of the other Scavenger Hunters!

Okay, this month we have:

L IS FOR
Labyrinth

This particular labyrinth is outside a Lutheran church in a small town near here.

And there's a Long story that goes with it, but I'll save that for the end.

7PM
Going to see a film at the art museum on campus at the University of Oregon.

LEFT
The western coast of the United States is sometimes referred to as the Left Coast. I love that! It has a hint of Parisian glamor (Left Bank), it's accurate as far as map-reading, and it sums up the way the West Coast usually swings politically.

GADGET
This is made for measuring hems, but I find it a handy gauge for just about anything.

PUZZLE
We got there in the end!

LETTER
Taken from a previous post (some might call that cheating - I call it efficiency) about the Griffin and Sabine books.

REFLECTION
This photo was also used in another post, but then I noticed the reflection in the old, wavy glass and I decided to use this again. My efficiency knows no bounds!

FRESH
I wish you could have smelled this!

TINY

HIDDEN

DEMOLITION (passive)

ANTIQUE
This little plaster statuette was in my grandfather Valdemar's home when he was a child. I'm not an angelic type of person, but I like her flaws and her broken wing and her history.

Now about that long story -

That Lutheran church is about 13 miles from where I live now. When I was little I lived right next door.

My dad was the pastor there. (And I grew up to be un-angelic - the shoemaker's kids go barefoot.) We moved away when I was eight years old, then moved twice more before I was out on my own. And then we all moved again for good measure. Eventually my sister ended up back in this vicinity, then my parents moved back, then I moved back - my brother's the only holdout. So when my dad died he was buried at a cemetery in the country outside this small town.

As we were coming back from the cemetery that day, my family stopped here at our old home and we walked the labyrinth.

We entered one at a time, and we went at our own paces. There's only one way in and one way out, and there are sharp curves and gentle curves. We would occasionally meet each other as we passed on different parts of the circuit, or we would walk side by side for a moment before one of us would turn. We were all moving on the same path, but in different places and different times. Sometimes together, sometimes far away, but coming back together at the end. Just like life.
