Wow, what a year it's been, huh? Holy cow! It's been windy, rainy, snowy, melty.
Sunny, cloudy, dark and light.
There's been fly-tipping in our local town.
What a tumultuous year so far - and it's only beginning!

But seriously, I am incensed at politics in both the US and UK, and I am about to go cold turkey and quit reading or watching the news at all. That'll show 'em! If politicians give a damn about my opinion (they don't), they'll be sorry I'm not watching their fake news, platitudes and Twitter regurgitations. But I don't want to sully my pristine blog with politics. I want to talk about something important, which is - is anybody blogging anymore?

I've become very dilatory about blogging - and especially about commenting - since I drank the
Instagram Kool-aid. I'm doing this post because I wanted to practice writing again using all ten fingers to type instead of just thumbs. (Actually, I just use my right index finger to text, hunting and pecking on the phone keyboard. Is that a typical old lady thing? How do you text - fingers or thumbs?)

So I'll throw in a few photos here, because I have loads. And I'll encourage you all to ignore the news and politics and instead have a shot of vodka and play a game of Scrabble. Spring is just around the corner!

Hey Val. I type with the same finger with my phone. And I'm not sure how much more I will be blogging. Instagram is a happy place. I'm too depressed these days to write a upbeat blog post. With IG the small joys are easier to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteIG is fun, and so easy to click the heart if you don't have time to comment. I'm practising typing with thumbs and getting better at it!
DeleteAh yes, I am still blogging away - even more so now that my attention has turned to quilting and sewing. So much to say!
ReplyDeleteIG is soooo much fun, got myself into trouble with the Mr. being on that site so I am more careful now. Following you there now.
Lurvs that tagline, American accent - British address.
Pop by for a visit, http://thriftshopcommando.blogspot.com
I saw your picture come up on IG with a new name - your new alias, huh?
DeleteI'm still blogging, not often mind and yes I'm a right index finger texter also, so I guess I must be an old lady. Only a shot of vodka??...on Friday I think I might need more, quite a lot more! Oh you've been to Sussex, hope you liked it down here?
ReplyDeleteI meant, start with one shot of vodka. What happens after that is none of my business. Sussex was stunning - it was very cold, but perfectly clear. We went to Rye also - so pretty!
DeleteWhoa - congratulations on the cold turkey thing. That is superb. I am trying but I keep relapsing. There must be therapy for this kind of problem.
ReplyDeleteI use both index fingers if I can steady the phone keyboard. I prefer typing on my laptop although I miss the emoticons. Heh. Like here :-;
I am still blogging, but I have gone down to once a week. It's the IG vortex that has sucked me in. "Oh no, Mel, it won't take any time at all!" Bah!
I love this post. I love all the pictures. I love the word dilatory. The spring lamb hanging up there kind of freaks me out, like a weather vane with a flying witch. Throw me a shot glass and pull out the fake dictionary. I'll be there in a flash!!
I'm not on the wagon yet - the news is on right now. My habit may be too hard to break, but I'm trying not to get so worked up about it all. I'd love to play Scrabble with you one day! We'd have to allow words like farking and melty.
DeleteHa, IG has a lot to answer for in terms of my productivity!!! Somehow I find it seems I can be so much more shallow on IG than I can on my blog (isn't that terrible but my feed largely consists of collar shots!)
ReplyDeleteYour view is beautiful!
I recommend not having a tv, not listening to radio or reading the paper- I have no idea what is goign on inthe world and am much happier!1
Yes, IG can be shallow. It's kind of like social media speed dating - sometimes you don't remember what you've seen, but sometimes it just clicks and gives you inspiration for the day.
Deletemwahaha, I also use my index finger to type on my phone, and take off my glasses (I'm short sighted!). Granny style rocks!
ReplyDeleteLove to see you blogging, and love that you decided to take it easy on news and politics. You always can relax and breathe, smile and go for a walk. And take more fabulous pictures!. I like your doors collection (particularly)
besos
I take off my glasses too! It's the only way I can see small things. Yes, I should take more door photos, but I worry it might be rude to the home owner. I have to be quick and discreet!
Delete{{{Me waving madly from Vancouver}}} Good question and one I've been asking too...what has happened to blogging? I guess if a blog feels like work, then best to leave it to collect dust bunnies, at least for awhile. But, I still enjoy that a blog seems to allow for greater creativity. I just fear that people don't want that. I don't even know what they want anymore...
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog...the photos, the dialogue.
Thanks, Sue! I feel bad that I haven't commented on your blog lately, although I did have a look at your fuzzy handbags - you are mega-talented! Your blog is a great way to show off your creations, and I hope you never quit feeling inspired that way.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I need to tell you how much I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteI stopped watching news and have tried to avoid all politics for about the last year. It does help to save a little bit of sanity.
I am still blogging, but with no regular posting schedule. Like you, I do enjoy "real writing". I do post to my IG account regularly (I am a two-finger typist like you, so I am a member of the Old Lady club) and I do like the instantaneous nature of it. I try to actually interact with people and comment on the feeds of the folks I know. I wish I could avoid all of the political BS, but I subscribe to the New York Times online and it's hard to avoid.
ReplyDeleteI've tried IG but still like blogging best :-)

I hope you continue - I've only just found your blog! And I don't do IG.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE that you are wearing your pussy hat in your photo. It just makes me so happy.
